What a packing service includes and how we charge for it
Our packers come to your home before moving day with the boxes, packing paper, tape and wardrobe cartons, and pack whatever you ask them to, from one kitchen to every room in the house. Each box is filled so nothing moves inside it, taped shut and labelled with the room it belongs in and a note of what is inside. Packing is charged by time. Our Melbourne packing services are listed at $75 per half hour on our removalist prices page, so the price follows the size of the home and how much of it you hand over to us.
Most households book the packers for the day before the move, on the same quote as the truck. Unpacking at the new place is a separate booking, charged the same way.
Full packing or just the rooms you dread
A full pack means we do the lot: kitchen, wardrobes, linen, books, garage and shed, with the house left empty of everything except the furniture and the bag you are keeping with you. It suits people moving interstate, households with young children, and anyone who is short on time or would rather not be on their knees the night before settlement.
A partial pack is the other option. You do the clothes, linen and toys yourself, and our packers take the rooms where things break: the kitchen, glassware and crockery, framed pictures and mirrors, lamps, the television and the ornaments on the shelves. Tell us which rooms are ours when you book and we bring the right cartons for them.
What we bring and how we pack
The packers arrive with boxes in several sizes, packing paper and tape. You do not need to buy anything first.
Furniture is not part of packing. On moving day the removal crew wraps lounges, mattresses and timber pieces in blankets and plastic and straps them in the truck, and that is part of the hourly move rate rather than the packing rate.
Unpacking at the new place
If you want the boxes gone, book unpacking as well. The team comes the day of delivery or the day after, starts with the kitchen so you can cook that night, and works through the rooms in the order you give them. Cupboards and drawers are filled where you point, the paper goes back in the empty cartons, and the flattened boxes are stacked in one spot rather than left in the hallway.
How to get the house ready for the packers
The packers work fastest in a house where the decisions have already been made. Before they arrive, sort out what is not coming: the op shop pile, the hard rubbish and anything the new owner is keeping. Put the things you are carrying yourself in one place we can see and will not touch: passports, medication, jewellery, chargers, the kettle and the kids’ favourite toy.
Packing for an interstate move or for storage
Packing is also available on its own if you have hired a truck yourself or are filling a self-pack container, and for offices, where files and desk contents go into labelled crates. Public liability and transit insurance covers every job we do, packing included.
Getting a packing quote
Tell us the number of bedrooms, which rooms you want packed, whether you want unpacking too, and the dates. If the packers are coming with the move, send both addresses as well and we quote the two together. Our volume calculator gives you a rough box count before you call. Quotes are free and you are under no obligation to book.

Packing questions people ask us
How many packers do you send, and how long does a house take?
Usually two, and more for a big house on a tight date. How long it takes depends on how many rooms are ours and how full the cupboards are, so we quote hours from your room list rather than from the number of bedrooms alone. The kitchen is nearly always the slowest room.
Can you pack just the kitchen and the breakables?
Yes. You pack clothes, linen and books, we pack the crockery, glassware, pictures, lamps and anything else you would rather not be responsible for, and you pay only for the hours the packers are there.
Should I be home while the packers work?
It helps to have you or someone you trust there, at least at the start, to say what is going and what is staying and to keep aside the things you are carrying yourself. Once the packers know the house you are free to get on with the rest of the move.
Do you unpack as well, and can it be on the same day as the move?
Yes to both. The unpacking team can start as the truck is being emptied, or come the next morning if you would rather have a night to look at the place first. Kitchen first, then the rooms in the order you give us.
Can you pack a house that is going into storage?
Yes. Boxes going into storage are packed tighter and labelled on two sides so they can be found without unstacking the lot. Our storage facility is climate-controlled and under 24-hour surveillance, and the load comes out when you have the keys to the next place.
Can I buy boxes from you and do some of the packing myself?
You can. Moving boxes, paper and tape are sold on their own, and if you pack some rooms and leave us the rest, the packers use the same cartons so the load stacks properly in the truck.
