Interstate Removalists Adelaide

Adelaide to Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane by dedicated truck or shared backload.

Two ways to price a move out of Adelaide

An interstate move from Adelaide is priced one of two ways. A dedicated truck carries only your load, loads on the day you set and delivers on the day agreed before it leaves, and the price follows the truck size and the destination. On our removalist prices page a 20 cubic metre truck is listed at $4,500 from Adelaide to Melbourne and $9,000 to Sydney or Canberra, rising to $7,800 and $15,600 for a 60 cubic metre truck. The other way is a backload, where your furniture shares a truck already running the corridor and you pay for the space it takes, listed at $155 per cubic metre.

Our Adelaide interstate removalists quote both ways when a load could go either way, so you can see what a fixed delivery day is worth to you. A supervisor leads the crew on every job, whichever option you take.

Which way the truck leaves Adelaide

Where you are going decides the road and the price. Melbourne is the shortest of the four runs: out through the Adelaide Hills on the South Eastern Freeway, along the Dukes Highway to the Victorian border, then the Western Highway into Melbourne. Sydney and Canberra loads head up the Sturt Highway through the Riverland and join the Hume at Tarcutta, with Canberra loads turning off for the Barton Highway. Brisbane is the longest run, north on the Newell Highway through inland New South Wales, and the price table follows the distance.

Each corridor has its own page with what a run to that city involves: Adelaide to Sydney, Adelaide to Brisbane, and for households coming the other way, Melbourne to Adelaide.

Dedicated truck or shared backload

Take a dedicated truck when the whole house is going and the dates are fixed, with a settlement at the Adelaide end and a key handover at the other. The truck is yours from the first box to the last, nothing is handled twice, and the delivery day is set before loading.

Take a backload when the load is smaller than a truck or the dates can bend. A one-bedroom unit, the contents of a granny flat, or the furniture a student is taking to Sydney does not need a truck to itself. It rides with another load heading the same way and you pay for the cubic metres it takes up. The trade-off is a delivery window rather than a day, agreed before the truck leaves, and that is where the saving comes from. Our backloading page explains it in more detail.

What the crew does before the truck leaves Adelaide

Every piece of furniture is wrapped in blankets and plastic and strapped in the truck, because a load that shifts between Tailem Bend and Horsham can arrive damaged. Beds, dining tables and flat-pack wardrobes come apart here and go back together at the other end. If you want the packing done as well, the packers come the day before with boxes, paper and tape and are charged by time on top of the truck price. Every interstate move is covered by public liability and transit insurance.

When the dates at the two ends do not line up

Interstate moves rarely have a lease ending and a settlement on the same day. If the new place is not ready, we hold the load in our storage facility, climate-controlled and watched around the clock, and deliver once the keys are in your hand. That can be a few days or a few months, and the load stays together as one job rather than being split across two.

For a move within the city, our Adelaide removalists page covers local work charged by the hour.

Getting an interstate quote from Adelaide

Send us both addresses, the number of bedrooms, anything oversized, the floors and lift or stair access at each end, and whether your dates are fixed or flexible. Flexible dates are what make a backload possible, so say so if they are. We come back with a truck size and a price, or two prices if both options fit. There is no charge for the quote and no obligation to go ahead.

To keep the cost down, cull before you count: the price is built on space, so the wardrobe you were going to replace anyway should not ride to Brisbane. Call 1300 724 553, or leave your details on the contact form and we will call you back.

Why Adelaide households book us for the border run

The things that matter on a long run, in plain terms.

Two prices, not one

A dedicated truck priced by size and destination, or a backload priced by the cubic metre. When a load could go either way we quote both.

Wrapped, strapped and kept together

Blankets and plastic on every piece, straps in the truck, and your load kept as one job from the Adelaide driveway to the interstate door.

Crews trained by us

We train our crews ourselves for the work at both ends of an Adelaide interstate move.

Packing for a long road

Packers the day before, boxes filled, sealed and labelled by room, and unpacking at the new place if you want it.

Questions Adelaide households ask about moving interstate

Two Careful Hands removalists carrying a box to the front door of a new home

When will my furniture arrive in Melbourne or Sydney?

On a dedicated truck the delivery day is agreed before loading and the truck drives to it. On a backload you get a delivery window instead, also agreed before the truck leaves, because your load is being fitted around another one on the same corridor. Either way the date or the window is on your quote before you book.

Why is a backload from Adelaide cheaper than a dedicated truck?

Because you are paying for cubic metres on a truck that is making the trip anyway, rather than for the whole truck. The backloading rate on our prices page is $155 per cubic metre, so a one-bedroom load can cost a fraction of the dedicated price. The cost is a wider delivery window.

How do I work out how many cubic metres I have?

The volume calculator above adds it up from a room-by-room list. As a rough guide from our prices page, the 20 cubic metre truck suits a one or two bedroom home, the 30 a three bedroom, and the 40 a four bedroom house. Count the garage and the shed, because they are what most people forget.

Do you move households into Adelaide as well as out of it?

Yes. Loads coming from Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane are delivered to the door anywhere in metropolitan Adelaide and carried to the rooms you name. The same dedicated truck and backload options apply in that direction.

Can the packing be done before the interstate truck arrives?

Yes. The packers come the day before with boxes, paper and tape and pack the rooms you hand over, which is most of the house for a long run. Packing is charged by time and sits on the quote alongside the truck price.

I moved some things interstate from Sydney to Melbourne in July and found that the process of signing up was easy. I spoke to Rene, who was very helpful with planning. I requested that the drivers help deliver to the storage site. The movers were courteous and moved swiftly and professionally to load the truck. They were careful with the items and stacked and efficiently secured them. The driver, Selas, arrived in Melbourne the next day, unloaded it into the storage unit, helped lock it, and sent me a picture to confirm. I was delighted with the outcome, as planning a move was somewhat stressful, yet it went smoothly. This business is willing to help customers and not just focus on time or money. I used them again subsequently because they were reliable. Thanks!
