Removalists Glen Iris

Hourly moves through the leafy streets between Gardiner and Burwood stations.

Period homes, narrow hallways and leafy access

Glen Iris sits where the Cities of Boroondara and Stonnington meet, 10 kilometres south-east of the CBD, and the housing tells you that straight away. Edwardian weatherboards with narrow side gates line the streets between High Street and Gardiners Creek. Interwar brick homes on deep blocks sit alongside newer townhouse builds that have gone up where single dwellings stood. Around Gardiner and Glen Iris stations on the Glen Waverley line, unit blocks fill the cross streets with limited loading bays and timed lift access. Further east near Burwood station on the Alamein line, blocks are larger and driveways run longer. Moving a two-bedroom flat near Ashwood over to a house in Camberwell is a different job from emptying a five-bedroom home off High Street heading to Armadale, and the quote should show that before anyone lifts a box.

The price runs on the clock. You describe the house, the heavy items and the access at both ends, and our Glen Iris removalists choose the truck and crew to match. Local rates start from $75 per half hour for a two-person crew and a 20 cubic metre truck, and the full list by truck size is on our removalist prices page.

Getting the truck close on a Glen Iris street

Access in Glen Iris varies block by block. Along Summerhill Road and the streets that slope toward Gardiners Creek, driveways are long and sometimes shared, squeezed between neighbouring fences. The streets around the number 72 tram route carry parked cars on both sides, and commuter parking near Gardiner and Glen Iris stations fills before eight on a weekday. Unit blocks close to the stations have one loading bay and a lift that needs booking in advance.

We check the access before naming a price. Where a full-size truck cannot park at the kerb, a smaller one goes in, or the crew plans the carry to keep things moving. One crew member acts as supervisor, deciding the loading order and what gets blanketed first so nothing doubles back through the house.

Packing, wrapping and keeping things safe

In a Glen Iris period home, built-in shelves, linen presses and kitchen drawers hold decades of belongings, and there is rarely a spare room to stage boxes. If you would rather not pack it yourself, our team arrives the day before with boxes, paper and tape, works through each room and labels every box by where it goes at the new address.

The crew blankets and wraps every item before carrying it to the truck, where strapping holds the load steady. Bed frames, tables and flat-pack wardrobes come apart here and go back together there, all within the hourly rate and covered by public liability and transit insurance. If settlement dates slip, we keep your furniture in climate-controlled storage under round-the-clock surveillance and deliver when the new place is ready. Storage runs short or long term, and our crews handle pickup and drop-off.

Your Glen Iris quote

Tell us what is in the house, the addresses and any access issues such as stairs, lifts or shared driveways. We reply with a truck, a crew and a price. The calculator below gives you a volume estimate, and the quote costs nothing with no obligation attached.

Having the house packed and paths cleared before the truck pulls up shaves time off the bill. Sealed boxes stacked by the front door, emptied drawers and a spot held for the truck on the street outside can cut a full hour from a unit move near Gardiner station. Why Glen Iris households book us

Hourly rates, no guesswork

The rate is set by the truck and crew your job needs, quoted once we know the access at both ends, so the price is clear before you book.

Every piece wrapped and strapped

Furniture is wrapped in blankets and plastic and strapped in the truck, whether it comes from a weatherboard off High Street or a unit block near Gardiner station.

Trucks that fit your street

We run several sizes and send the one that suits your driveway, your load and the parking out the front, so you are not paying for a truck that cannot get close.

A supervisor on the crew

One person owns the loading order, the wrapping decisions and the timing, from the first item on the truck to the last box placed at the new address.

Glen Iris moving questions

Removalist carrying a wrapped item down a driveway

Can you move furniture out of a period home with narrow hallways?

Yes. Many of the older weatherboards between High Street and Gardiners Creek have hallways barely a metre wide and front doors opening straight onto a verandah with steps. We measure doorways and plan the carry before starting, and beds and wardrobes come apart so they clear the frames without scraping plaster. A three-bedroom Edwardian with narrow side access takes longer than a ground-floor unit, and the quote reflects that.

Is parking difficult near Gardiner or Glen Iris station on move day?

It can be, especially on weekdays when commuter parking fills the streets near both stations on the Glen Waverley line. Hold a spot out the front with your car or a bin. If timed parking applies we arrange the loading around the restrictions, and a truck parked at the kerb rather than down the street saves carrying time and keeps the bill lower.

Do you move a single fridge or washing machine?

Yes, single-item jobs are quoted on their own. Tell us the item, the floor it is on and the access at both ends. A fridge coming out of a first-floor unit with a lift near Burwood station is a different quote from one that has to come down a flight of stairs in a house near Murrumbeena, so the detail matters.

How do you protect furniture going down a shared driveway?

Everything gets blankets and plastic before it leaves the house. The crew carries each piece down the drive and loads it straight onto the truck, where strapping holds it in place. Shared driveways off Summerhill Road are often narrow with fences on both sides, so we typically load one piece at a time rather than staging items outside on the concrete.

What if our settlement dates do not line up?

We pick up your furniture, take it to our climate-controlled storage facility with round-the-clock surveillance, and hold it until the new place is ready. That can be a few days between settlements or several months if you are renovating a place in Elsternwick or Carnegie. We deliver when you hand us the keys and carry everything to the rooms you point at.
