About Montmorency

Montmorency is an outer suburb of Melbourne, Victoria. It’s 18 kilometres northeast of Melbourne’s Central Business District and within the City of Banyule local government area. Victoria Parade binds Montmorency to the south, Grimshaw Street to the east, Were Street to the north and Heidelberg-Kinglake Road to the west.
The suburb is named after Elizabeth Montmorency, Lady Barrow, the wife of Sir John Barrow, 1st Baronet. The Barrow family were the original landowners in the area, and their property, named “Barrow Park”, was subdivided for housing in 1912.
The majority of housing in Montmorency is made up of detached houses on large blocks of land. However, the area also has several apartments and townhouses, particularly along Were Street.
